FULL THROTTLE: IMSA Petit LeMans thriller. The First Family of winning. Power of Porsche & pedals.
/

Started as a counter to the legendary 24 Hours of LeMans, the Petit LeMans at Road Atlanta is more than just an American version of a global racing event. Couple that demanding track with a grueling 10 hours of competition, and you have one of the more mentally challenging races anywhere in the world. This season, IMSA finds itself with a season climax showcasing the very best in tight competition, where title are coming right down to the wire. There has rarely been such excitement for one weekend, and we thus turned to someone who has intimate knowledge about what it takes to face this track and this event. Let’s go 1 on 1 with veteran IMSA announcer and analyst Jeremy Shaw, reviewing how the Petit LeMans got started, and what makes it a “must see” event for every motorsports fan. Wayne Taylor was already a racing legend when he decided to start his own team. Strapping in with a determination and a savvy of understanding the business on and off the track, he has built his organization into the First Family of finishing first. Part of that current mantle has been superbly accepted by son Ricky Taylor. Already a proven and multiple winner across numerous racing genres, Ricky prepares for the 2022 IMSA season finale at the Petit LeMans with the casual, fun and targeted style that has vaulted him into the top of his craft. Let’s go 1 on 1 with Ricky Taylor, hear some excellent stories about being in that family, and how he will approach another championship run at Road Atlanta. The difference in European and American road racing is as wide as the gulf between Watkins Glen and LeMans. One driver rose thru the ranks of Euro racing to become a success, but he knew something was missing. He also knew his level of skill and how it would be appreciated in America. So he took the gamble, succeeded at the highest level of open cockpit racing in the US, an then turned his dream int a friendship that powered his way to Porsche racing while also feeding a passion based on his heritage. Let’s go 1 on 1n and meet Jan Heylen, who has merely scratched the colonial surface on what he can accomplish.
